Google Advanced Protection Program (henceforth “GAPP”) makes a few changes to your Google accounts:
- MFA is enforced for all logins
- Harmful downloads are blocked
- Only Google or Verified Third-Party apps can access your Google account data

In my case I was unable to sign into my Nvidia Shield or Apple TV with my Google Workspace account after enabling GAPP.
There’s a few steps you need to take to get around this:
- Head to the Google Admin Users page, and go into your user
- Go to the Security tab, scroll down to, and disable, “Login challenge”. It will re-enable after 10 minutes.
- Scroll up to 2-step verification and click “Get backup verification codes”
- On the Google sign in prompt on your Apple TV or Android TV, select “Use 8 digit backup keys”, and enter one of the backup keys you just generated
